Esko Kongsberg Bit-Mus06-4012-50c1 G42460824 Coating C1 / Cka Carbide Tool
The C1 / CKA Coating Advantage
The "C1" (also referred to by tooling suppliers as CKA) designates a specialized tribological nanocomposite coating. It transforms the behavior of the raw tungsten carbide base:
  • Heat Barrier: It acts as a thermal shield, forcing the intense friction heat generated during high-speed milling into the flying chips rather than transferring it into the tool core.
  • Extreme Hardness: It increases the surface hardness of the cutting edges well beyond raw carbide, dramatically reducing mechanical wear.
  • Anti-Seize Lubricity: The coating possesses an exceptionally low coefficient of friction. This creates a "slick" surface that prevents gummy or melting materials from sticking to the flute.

Tool Architecture
  • Substrate: Sub-micron grain solid tungsten carbide.
  • Geometry: Single-flute (Z1) right-hand spiral up-cut with a 30° helix angle.
  • Dimensions: 6 mm shank, 4 mm cutting diameter, 12 mm cutting depth, and 50 mm overall length.

Why Use Coated vs. Uncoated Carbide?
You should explicitly choose the C1/CKA coated tool over the standard uncoated version for two specific production bottlenecks:
  1. Aluminum and ACM (Dibond) Milling: Uncoated carbide can cause hot aluminum to weld itself directly into the flute groove. This causes instant bit breakage. The C1 coating eliminates this chip-welding phenomenon.
  2. Abrasive Edge Wear: When cutting dense glass-filled plastics, carbon fiber layers, or thick MDF, abrasive fibers dull raw carbide quickly. The C1 coating preserves the razor edge up to 3 to 5 times longer.

Production Guidelines
  • Chip Load: Ensure your feed rates are fast enough to produce actual chips rather than fine dust. Fine dust creates friction, which prematurely degrades even coated tools.
  • Up-Cut Action: This tool pulls chips aggressively upward. Ensure your vacuum hold-down system is strong or use proper clamping on flexible sheet goods.
