The 500-9853 is the ultimate tool for deep 3D cutting and high-thickness profiling on the Summa flatbed, excelling at materials up to 30 mm (approx. 1.18 inches) thick:

Thick Foam Boards: Perfect for dense sign foams, Gatorfoam, expanded polystyrene (EPS), and polyurethane foams used in 3D lettering and packaging inserts.
Thick Plastics & Acrylics: Capable of clearing deep edges on heavy PVC, HDPE, and thick acrylic sheets.

Critical Operational Considerations

High Deflection Risk: Despite the stronger 4 mm thickness, a 30 mm cutting depth gives this bit an extreme length-to-diameter ratio. It will flex or snap under excessive lateral force.
Step-Down Strategy Required: Do not attempt a full 30 mm deep plunge-cut in rigid materials in a single pass. Run multiple, shallow step-down passes to preserve bit life and edge quality.
RPM & Feed Balance: You must lower the horizontal feed rate compared to shorter bits. Keep the spindle RPM high to ensure the single flute cleanly slices through the material rather than dragging.
Debris Clearance: The up-cut design aggressively pulls debris up. However, in a 30 mm deep groove, ensure your Summa vacuum extraction hood is positioned perfectly to prevent chips from clogging the trench.
