Coating Guide for Aluminum Machining
While your list names several industrial coatings, choosing the right physical vapor deposition (PVD) finish drastically impacts tool life and performance when cutting non-ferrous metals:
  • Nano Blue (NaCo) Coating: Highly recommended. This ultra-fine micro-layer offers extreme surface hardness (HRC ≥ 65) and exceptional lubricity. It maintains razor-sharp cutting edges and repels thermal load into the discarded chips. 
  • TiAlN (Titanium Aluminum Nitride) / AlTiN: These are industry-standard coatings designed for high heat resistance, forming a protective aluminum oxide layer at high temperatures. While effective for general purpose and steels, they contain aluminum, which can occasionally cause micro-welding when dry-cutting soft aluminum alloys. 
  • CrAlN (Chromium Aluminum Nitride) & TiSiN (Titanium Silicon Nitride): Optimized for extreme environments. CrAlN provides great corrosion and wear resistance in high-feed setups, while TiSiN handles ultra-hard steels and difficult alloys up to HRC 60+.
