What these tools are used for

- Tungsten-containing steels (e.g., tungsten carbide or high-tungsten tool steels) are chosen for wear resistance and edge retention when cutting harder substrates or running high-volume production.

Common materials and forms
- Tungsten carbide knives: extremely hard, wear-resistant, suitable for high-volume or abrasive materials; can be manufactured as punches, die knives, or edge-form blades.
- Tool steels with tungsten: offer toughness and good edge life; often used in punch blades and die-cutting blades.
- HSS (high-speed steel) with tungsten additives: a balance of toughness and wear resistance in some punching tools.
- Geometries: punch knives come in various edge and tooth forms to suit specific hole shapes, slots, or textured cuts.

Note: ensure the blade geometry matches the target perforation or cut profile and that the mounting hole pattern aligns with the machine
