What Blade Offset Does
-
Offset is the calculation of how far the machine must move after each change of direction to ensure the blade tip reaches the intended corner of the cut, accounting for the blade’s physical geometry.
-
If set too low, corners may be rounded or incomplete; if set too high, corners can have notches or overshoots.
Typical Offset Values by Brand
-
Graphtec: Uses specialized CB09 blades, typically with a 0.25 mm offset for a 45° blade. Thicker or specialty materials may require slightly different settings, and users sometimes adjust values between 0.20–0.30 mm for best results.
-
Roland: Often defaults to 0.25 mm for a 45° blade and 0.40 mm for a 60° blade. Roland-compatible blades are used in both Roland and many third-party cutters (e.g., USCutter, PCUT), so these values can apply to several brands if the blades are compatible.
-
GCC, Ioline, MUTOH, PCUT, ANNA, GRI: Most use Roland-compatible blades or similar geometry; thus, starting with the Roland offsets (0.25 mm for 45°) is generally recommended, but manual adjustments based on cut quality may be needed.
-
Adjustment Tip: If corners are not clean, modify the offset in small increments (0.02–0.05 mm) and run test cuts until you achieve sharp, accurate corners.
When to Adjust Offset
-
When changing blade angles (e.g., from 45° to 60° or 30°).
-
When switching to thicker, specialty, or laminated vinyls.
-
If finished cuts show signs of inaccurate corners or inconsistent finish.
Reference Table
| Brand | Typical Offset (45° blade) | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Graphtec | 0.25 mm | Use CB09 type—adjust between 0.20–0.30 if needed |
| Roland | 0.25 mm (45°), 0.40 mm (60°) | Compatible with other brands, adjust for material |
| GCC | 0.25 mm | Roland-compatible blades recommended |
| Ioline | 0.25 mm | Use with Roland-compatible blades where applicable |
| MUTOH | 0.25 mm | Roland-compatible blades unless otherwise specified |
| PCUT | 0.25 mm | Matches Roland-compatible blade geometry |
| ANNA/GRI | 0.25 mm | If Roland blade type, use same base |
Always verify the latest recommendations from your cutter’s manual or manufacturer for the most accurate offset settings and run test cuts after any adjustment.
