How to correctly choose ITC Cnc Knife Blades models and materials and give examples

To correctly choose ITC CNC Knife Blades models and materials, you should consider the type of material you are cutting, the thickness and density of that material, and the compatibility with your CNC machine. ITC offers different models and blade types suited for various cutting applications:

- Drag Knife Blades (e.g., BDR series): Ideal for materials like vinyl, stickers, rubber, cardboard, thin plastics, and reflective materials. These blades pivot freely and are dragged along the cutting path, suitable for lighter materials.

- Oscillating Knife Blades: Best for softer and less dense materials such as foam, cardboard, corrugated plastic, rubber, felt, and soft gasket materials. The blade moves up and down rapidly (oscillates) to slice through materials cleanly.

- V-Cut / Angled Blades (e.g., BDF-70, BDF-71): Used when angular cuts (e.g., 45°, 90°) are needed, common in foamboard, fiberboard, and packaging prototypes for fold creation.

- Tangential Knife Blades: Suitable for tough or thick materials like leather, carpet, gasket, hard rubber, and composites. These blades rotate with servo motor control, allowing clean, intricate cuts.

Regarding the blade material, ITC blades are often made from high-quality materials such as solid carbide or carbide coated with wear-resistant coatings (e.g., AITiN). Carbide blades provide durability and sharpness, ideal for various materials from soft plastics to non-ferrous metals.

In practice, to select the right ITC CNC Knife Blade:

1. Identify the material to be cut (e.g., foam, vinyl, laminate, rubber).
2. Determine thickness and density to understand blade rigidity required.
3. Choose blade type matching material and cut type (drag knife for vinyl, oscillating knife for foam, V-cut for folds).
4. Ensure the blade model matches your CNC machine brand and tool holder.
5. Consider blade material and coating for longevity and cut quality.

Examples of ITC blade models:
- BDR series for drag knife applications (BDR-1, BDR-2 for thin materials).
- BDF-70, BDF-71 for V-cut angled blades.
- STA series solid carbide knives for tougher materials like aluminum or laminates.
