Mimaki Cutting Plotters And Printer Cutters Knives Knife Blades

Selecting the right Mimaki knife blade is critical for achieving precise cuts across different materials, ranging from standard vinyl to thick reflective sheets or heavy cardboard. Most Mimaki blades share a standard 0.3 mm offset, though specialized blades for fine detail or thick materials may vary.

Blade Selection Guide by Application

Selecting a blade depends primarily on material thickness and density:

· Thin Films (1-2 mil): A 30° blade is often used for very thin films like window tint or rice paper to prevent tearing.

· Standard Media (2-6 mil): A 45° blade (such as · SPB-0001· ) is the "all-purpose" choice for cast and calendered vinyl, heat transfer films, and stickers.

· Thick/Dense Media (>6 mil): A 60° blade provides a steeper angle for better penetration into thick materials like magnetic sheets, glitter HTV, or prismatic reflective films.

· Intricate Designs: For very small text or complex logos, use a blade with a lower offset (0.15mm) to ensure the blade can turn more accurately in tight corners.

·

Maintenance and Setup Tips

· Blade Depth Calibration: The blade should only extend about half the thickness of a credit card. A successful test cut should slice the top layer but only leave a light score on the backing sheet.

· Blade Holders: It is common practice to keep multiple blade holders pre-set for different materials (e.g., one for 45° vinyl and one for 60° thick materials) to avoid constant re-adjustment.

· Machine Settings: When switching blade angles, you must update the offset value in your cutter's settings (e.g., from 0.3mm to 0.75mm) to maintain corner accuracy
